Wolverines Make Quick Work of Outmatched Coyotes

Karen Jacobs had two goals while Jada Calderon and Wendy Sanabia each had a goal and assist as the San Bernardino Valley College's women's soccer team picked apart an outmatched Cuyamaca College team 8-0 Tuesday at SBVC.

Valerie Romero opened the scoring about five minutes in against the winless Coyotes (0-14-1, 0-4-1 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference division play). Jacobs scored back-to-back goals in the 18th and 23rd minutes, before her day was done, as the Wolverines (14-1-1, 5-0) rested several players against Cuyamaca, which only dressed 11 players for the game.

Osmara Nunez Barrera and Sanabia scored before the end of the half, giving the Wolverines a 5-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, with several regulars remaining on the bench on Sophomore Day, Morgan Simmang, Calderon and Angelica Benitez netted the final three goals – Benitez's coming against Cuyamaca field player Corrina Rodriguez, who was pressed into action in goal after goalkeeper Lorean Mendoza left the game injured.

Bianca Mitchell had two assists for the Wolverines, who fired 31 shots in the game, while only allowing two. Mendoza had six saves, while Rodriguez had one. Ann-Marie O'Connell had one save for San Bernardino Valley.
