SBVC Women’s Soccer opens up 2016 by grounding the Owls, 2-0

SBVC (1-0-0) brought along their shooting shoes as they peppered the Glendora Citrus Owls keeper with 32 total shots, finding the back of the net twice, to open up their 20th season with a win, 2-0.

The game time temperature creeped past 103 and SBVC got onto the board in the 16th minute when veteran forward Braelyn Tirella (Yucaipa H.S.) passed in front of the net and after a redirect, freshman midfielder Samantha Cordova (Rancho Cucamonga H.S.) poked the dribbler into the back of the net, giving SBVC the early 1-0 lead.

The Citrus keeper was under constant barrage all game, as the first half came to a close, she had faced 18 shots, making six saves, and both teams would go into halftime with SBVC maintaining their 1-0 advantage.

Then magic struck again for the home side as Tirella took a corner in the 87th minute and placed it brilliantly in front of freshman defender Jordan Steele (Hemet Tahquitz) who headed the ball past the diving Owls keeper to give SBVC an insurmountable, 2-0 lead.

The next home game for SBVC Women's Soccer is in three weeks as they will open Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play for the first time, hosting College of the Desert on September 20th.
