SBVC Women’s Soccer opens up the playoffs with victory over the Vaqueros, 2-0

SBVC (16-2-3) began the CCCAA SoCal Regionals as the #5 seed hosting the #12 seed Santa Barbara City Vaqueros (9-6-5), two early goals by the home side held up and SBVC moves on, 2-0.

SBVC will travel to the #4 seed Cerritos Falcons on Tuesday, November 24th with kick off set for 2p.

SBVC got onto the board early as sophomore midfielder Julissa Magana (Bloomington H.S.) fed a pass into freshman forward Baylee Williams (Beaumont H.S.) who darted up the left side of the field then snuck her way past the Santa Barbara City defense and into the middle, poking a shot past the keeper in the 2nd minute, giving SBVC a 1-0 advantage.

The visitors spent the rest of the first half trying to equalize as both teams attempted to feel out the different offensive and defensive arraignments. Both teams faced one another on September 29th at Santa Barbara City, where SBVC came out on top, 4-2.

In the extra time of the first half, SBVC's leading scorer, sophomore forward Leandra Garlinger (Riverside John Wesley North), finally found the back of the net on an exhausting long run which led to an initial deflection that she clobbered, giving SBVC a 2-0 going into halftime.

Freshman starting goalkeeper Arianna Rodriguez (La Quinta H.S) had no small task keeping her seventh clean sheet of the season, she faced seven shots on goal, five in the second half alone. SBVC outshot the Vaqueros, 25-13 in the victory.
