SBVC Women’s Soccer grabs another home victory, beating Grossmont 3-1

SBVC Women's Soccer (7-1-1) began the first day of fall by handing the visitors their first loss of the season with a spectacular win over the El Cajon Grossmont Griffins (3-1-1), 3-1.

The Griffins struck first in the opening half, scoring the first goal of the game in the 16th minute. The goal by Grossmont ended an impressive streak of 13 consecutive clean sheet home games by the SBVC defense. Prior to today's matchup, SBVC Women's Soccer had not played Grossmont since 2006 and SBVC has a 29-0-3 regular season home record since the beginning of the 2012 season.

The offensive outburst by the Griffins was quickly equalized moments later, in the 23rd minute by a tremendous breakaway goal scored by SBVC sophomore forward Leandra Garlinger (Riverside North) and assisted by sophomore midfielder Amairany Rosales (Rialto H.S.). This would be the first of two goals scored by Garlinger.

SBVC broke the tie just minutes before halftime as sophomore midfielder Taylor De Jongh (Redlands Citrus Valley) powered a shot past the keeper on an outstanding redirect by sophomore midfielder Claudia Zepeda (Cathedral City). SBVC took the lead going into halftime with a score of 2-1.

SBVC was quick to attack Grossmont's goalkeeper entering the second half with four quick shots aimed at the Griffins net within the first couple minutes of play. SBVC eventually had their efforts payoff in the 82nd minute with another outstanding goal by Garlinger and a second assist delivered by Zepeda.

SBVC's next game is September 29th at Santa Barbra City and their next home game is scheduled for October 9th against Victor Valley at 2 p.m.
