SBVC Women’s Soccer continues dominance at home, shuts down Mesa, 2-0

SBVC (5-1-1) fought to a 0-0 stalemate in the first half, as home side hit the crossbar and post in the first half, but SBVC would not be deterred as they scored twice in the second half, knocking off the San Diego Mesa Olympians (0-5), 2-0.

SBVC remains undefeated at home, scoring three victories, all by shut out. The home side received another clean sheet with the tremendous play from freshman starting goalkeeper Arianna Rodriguez (La Quinta H.S.) who had three saves for the entirety of the match. Rodriquez and the SBVC defense held the opposition to only eight shots in the entire game.

While both sides fought to a 0-0 stalemate in the first half but it was undeniable that SBVC controlled the pace of the game with 15 shots on the Olympians goalkeeper and having several of the shots hit the post and crossbar all throughout the first half.  

SBVC continued their attack on the opponent's goalkeeper entering the second half with several more shots aimed at the Olympians net. SBVC had their efforts eventually pay off in the 75th minute of play when freshman forward Baylee Williams (Beaumont H.S.) came off of the bench and put up a beautiful assist to sophomore starting forward Leandra Garlinger (Riverside John Wesley North) scoring the first goal of the game and putting SBVC up 1-0 over Mesa.

Unsatisfied with their one score lead, SBVC continued their offensive attack on the Olympians goalkeeper scoring another goal in stoppage time by Williams with the assist coming from freshman midfielder Kaelyn Schreck (Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos) to seal the victory for SBVC.

SBVC's next game is September 22nd at home against San Diego City with kickoff slated for 4 p.m.
