Wolverines Run Out of Gas Against Panthers

The San Bernardino Valley College women's basketball team took a ball control, slow-the-game-down approach in the first half, and they went into the half up by three Wednesday night against Chaffey.

But the Panthers picked up the pace in the second half, as Chaffey outscored the Wolverines 43-22 in the final 20 minutes as SBVC fell in its first game back from winter break 61-43.

Both teams were sloppy at times in the game Wednesday night, with Chaffey committing 15 turnovers to SBVC's 22. But in the end, it was Chaffey's shooting that put them over the top, as the Panthers made 44.6 percent of their shots to the Wolverines' 31.5 percent shooting from the field.

Tyease Bryson led the way for the Wolverines, as she scored 17 points and pulled down 16 rebounds with seven steals. Emani McMeans scored 12 points to bolster the Wolverines' final output.

Chaffey's Jessica Alvardo led all scorers with 18 points, while Jessica Pantoja added 13 and Gytonne added 10 points along with five rebounds and five assists.

The Wolverines will have a week off before hitting the court again, as they will host Imperial Valley at 7 p.m. Jan. 16.
