SBVC Fall in Tough Battle With Citrus

Early foul trouble and a tough night finding the basket spelled doom for the San Bernardino Valley College women's basketball team, as it fell in a non-conference game to Citrus College 53-47 Tuesday night at SBVC.

The Wolverines shot 21.7 percent in the game, missing all 18 3-pointers they attempted as the Owls swarmed the Wolverines every chance they had. And San Bernardino Valley was hamstrung as Aoloni Robinson and Brianne Cheatum each picked up their third foul of the game before the first half had ended.

Despite the poor shooting, the Wolverines were only down three points with 4:40 remaining, and looked to be poised to make a final push. But the Owls scored the next four points and were able to hold off the Wolverines and the clock the rest of the way.

Brittian Cheatum led all scorers with 16 point, while sister Brianne added 15 for the Wolverines. The Owls had a more balanced attack, with Marisol Chavez-Delgado leading the way with 13 points, Kyannie Brown adding 11 and Jezteni Espinoza pitching in 10.

Patience Hopkins had 11 rebounds for the Wolverines, who will be off until Nov. 30 when they will take on Merced College in the opening round of the Bristol Marketplace Challenge at Santa Ana College. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
