SBVC Women’s Basketball playoff run ends in Lancaster, 61-52

SBVC (16-12) had their playoff run halted prematurely by a team they routinely punished in the regular season when they were a member of the Foothill Conference, but unfortunately the playoffs are a completely different animal unto itself and SBVC fell to the Lancaster Antelope Valley Marauders (17-12), 61-52.

SBVC did win the battle at the free throw line, shooting 84.6% (11-13), but struggled as the Marauders grabbed 50 rebounds compared to the Wolverines 26 boards and also beyond the arc with SBVC going 1 for 11 compared to Antelope Valley shooting 4 for 10.

I think what might be lost in the score is the overall effort, this was a tremendous feat that head coach Susan Crebbin accomplished, getting her team back into the playoffs and winning a Foothill Conference title. The team won 12 of their final 13 games to get into the playoffs, rolling through the entire Foothill Conference, on their way to their third undefeated Conference season.

First team all-Foothill Conference selection, sophomore guard Ashley Carson (Upland H.S.) led SBVC with 16 points, going 9 of 10 from the charity stripe. Freshman forward Sydney Gray (Las Vegas, NV Centennial) also a first team all-Foothill Conference selection, scored 12 points on 5 of 8 shooting.

Three of the five all-Foothill Conference selections are freshman, making the 2015-2016 season that much more exciting.
