Wolverines Finally Open Season At Home

Halfway through the regular season, the San Bernardino Valley College softball team finally got a chance to play its first home game of the season.

Unfortunately for the Wolverines, the home cooking had sat on the stove a little too long, as Southwestern mauled the Wolverines with five runs in the first inning en route to a 15-1 win Monday afternoon, in a game shortened to five innings.

Angelica Macias singled home a run in the fifth to break the shutout, as she singled home Emily Sanchez Gutierrez, who led off the fifth inning with a walk. Sicily Stanley and Kirsten Macias also drew walks in the inning, setting up Angie Macias' hit to get SBVC on the board.

Pitcher Gabrielle Ursuy was throwing strikes for the Wolverines, but the Jaguars kept putting the ball in play. Ursuy ended up giving up all 15 runs - only 11 earned - while walking none.
