The San Bernardino Valley College softball team had two runners thrown out at the plate, and could not withstand a 10-hit barrage from San Diego Mesa in a 7-0 loss Friday at Chavez Park.

Allysia Victorino led off the game with a single for the Wolverines and was at third base with two outs. Mesa pitcher Carmen Vasquez threw a wild pitch to the backstop, allowing Victorino to break for home. But catcher Erika Byrne fielded the ball and threw to Vasquez in time, ending the threat.

In the fifth, the Wolverines loaded the bases against Vasquez, with Mesa going to the bullpen, bringing in Sarah Dages to face Victorino. The SBVC catcher popped a ball into shallow right field, where second baseman Serena DeLeon tracked the ball down. She made the catch then fired home to Byrne in time to get Sicily Stanley for a double play to end the inning.

Meanwhile, when Byrne wasn't helping stop the Wolverines from scoring, she helped her team with a two-run double in the seventh for extra insurance runs, while Annemarie Fischer lined a ball over the fence in straight-away center for another two runs in the fifth.

The Wolverines had six hits in the game, with designated player Selena Roldan the only player with multiple hits, going 2-for-3.
