Big Inning Helps Wolverines Win in Conference Opener

Kiara Medina doubled home two runs in a four-run fourth inning and struck out six College of the Desert batters as the San Bernardino Valley College softball team opened Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play with a 6-1 victory at Chavez Park in Colton.

Leading 1-0 in the fourth, Selena Roldan led off the inning with a single, then stole second. Seriena Rodriguez followed with a walk. Angelina Macias ran for Rodriguez, and both her and Roldan moved up as B.B. Williams reached on an error trying to bunt them over.

Medina followed with a double to right, scoring two. Gabby Ursuy followed with a single to score Williams and Medina giving the Wolverines a 5-0 lead.

Tatiana Martinez doubled home Nalacia Nelson for the Roadrunners' only run in the fifth inning.

Roldan singled home Evangelina Mosqueda with the first run of the game in the first inning, while Mosqueda singled home Allysia Victorino in the sixth to close out the game.

The Wolverines pounded out 13 hits in the game. Cassandra Ramirez was 3-for-4, while Victorino, Mosqueda and Roldan were all 2-for-4.

Medina went the distance, allowing eight hits and the run Desert run.
