Wolverines Sweep Two From Coyotes

The San Bernardino Valley College softball team got back on the winning track Thursday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader with Cerro Coso College at Chavez Park in Colton.

The Wolverines won the first game 8-0 in six innings and the second game 8-1.

San Bernardino Valley jumped on the Coyotes in the first inning of the first game, scoring four times in the opening frame. In all, eight Wolverines' players crossed home plate in the game. The Wolverines also took advantage of some sloppy play from the Coyotes, who committed six errors in the game, allowing five of the runs to score unearned.

Gabrielle Ursuy doubled home Evangelina Mosqueda with the game's first run in the first inning. Allysia Victorino and Selena Roldan were both 2-for-3 at the plate for the Wolverines.

Kiara Medina struck out eight, while only walking one for the victory.

In the second game, it was the Coyotes who struck first. Victoria Placensia hit Ursuy's first pitch of the game over the fence in left field to give Cerro Coso a quick 1-0 lead.

But the Wolverines tied it in the second and took the lead in the third with single runs in each inning.  They broke the game open in the fourth, scoring four times. The big play came when Mosqueda slapped a bases loaded single down the third base line scoring two runs. She was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and the two RBI in the game.

Victorino was 2-for-2 with two RBI in the game.

Ursuy got the win, pitching five innings, giving up seven hits and striking out five.

The Wolverines continue their busy schedule with a pair of games at Citrus on Friday, then another doubleheader at noon Saturday at Chavez Park.
