SBVC Softball falls to the Panthers, 11-2

SBVC (5-14; 1-2) had their hands full all afternoon with a tough visitor, but fighting until the end against the Rancho Cucamonga Chaffey Panthers (13-3-1; 3-0), 11-2.

SBVC defense shined early as the lead off Panthers runner ended up at third base after a single to right, followed by back-to-back stolen bases. The next batter popped out to freshman catcher Karina Ponce (Moreno Valley Rancho Verde) who gunned down the runner at third for the double play.

The Panthers would add two runs in the top of the second and SBVC would chase the starting pitcher in the bottom of the third. Chaffey added another run in the fourth, three more runs in the fifth, a run in the sixth and four runs in the seventh.

SBVC would get the zero off of the board in the bottom of the seventh as leadoff hitter, freshman second baseman Desiree Donley (San Bernardino Options 4 Youth) hit a single to right, but was called out on a fielder's choice by freshman center fielder Erin Alvizo (Fontana Henry J. Kaiser). Back at the top of the lineup for SBVC, sophomore short stop Savanah Guzman (Redlands H.S.) clobbered a double to center which scored Alvizo. Freshman first baseman Alexandra Woods (Riverside John Wesley North) would reach on an error by the Chaffey second baseman, putting Guzman at third. Freshman right fielder Selena Roldan (San Bernardino Cajon) stepped in to pound a double to left and score Guzman, but that would be all for SBVC on the afternoon.

Alvizo had a fantastic day at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a run scored, Guzman went 1 for 2 with 2 walks, a run scored and a run batted in and Roldan went 2 for 4.
