SBVC (4-10) opened up their first double header at home and swept past the Woodland Hills Los Angeles Pierce Brahmas (1-8), 11-3 in game one and 8-7 in game two.
In game one, Pierce opened up the scoring in the top of the first, SBVC quickly tied the game in the bottom of the second as freshman left fielder Desiree Gonzalez (Redlands H.S.) led off the inning with a hit by pitch and freshman second baseman Desiree Donley (San Bernardino Options 4 Youth) hit a bunt sacrifice to move Gonzales to second. Freshman right handed starting pitcher Terilyn Baude (4-7) (San Bernardino Cajon) would collect a walk and move to second base on a popup. Then sophomore short stop and leadoff batter Savanah Guzman (Redlands H.S.) was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two out. Gonzales would come around to tie the game at 1-1 on a wild pitch.
SBVC would add two more runs in the bottom of the third, as freshman third baseman Destiny Flores (Rialto Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower) reached on a one out error by the second baseman and freshman catcher Karina Ponce (Moreno Valley Rancho Verde) walked. With two on and two out, Donley singled to left to load the bases and Baude would clobber a double to center, which missed being a home run by mere inches. The Baude double would score Ponce and Flores to give SBVC a 3-1 lead.
The Brahmas would add a run in the top of the fourth, to make the score 3-2, but SBVC would grab that run back in the bottom half of the frame as freshman first baseman Alexandra Woods (Riverside John Wesley North) came home on a one out fielder's choice. SBVC regained their two-run advantage, 4-2.
Pierce would add another run in the top of the fifth, and then SBVC brought out the mercy guns as they scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to take game one, 11-3. In all, SBVC sent six batters to the plate, hitting two singles and two doubles, and scoring four runs, before the first out was even recorded. Immediately afterwards, SBVC put together a walking parade as Ponce grabbed a walk, then freshman pinch hitter Brittany Montano (Colton) loaded the bases with a walk of her own and Donley collected and RBI as she walked in a run. As SBVC would bat around the lineup, Baude came up and smacked a single to left, scoring Montano and Ponce to end the game. Both Guzman and freshman right fielder Alexes Medina (San Bernardino San Gorgonio) had doubles in the inning.
In game two, SBVC jumped out to the early lead, grabbing a run in the first, when freshman right fielder Selena Roldan (San Bernardino Cajon) scored on a wild pitch and a run in the second when freshman left fielder Desiree Gonzalez (Redlands H.S.) came in on a double to center by freshman center fielder Erin Alvizo (Fontana Henry J. Kaiser).
Pierce would cut the lead in half, making the score 2-1, but SBVC once again used a huge inning to gain a big advantage. Guzman led off the inning with a double to left and after a pop out and walk, came around to score on an infield single by Flores. Ponce would pound a single to left, scoring Flores from second base and Gonzalez singled to left, which set up Donley to pound a single to center, scoring Ponce. Later in the inning Baude clobbered a double to left scoring another run, in the end, SBVC put up 5 runs on 6 hits in the bottom of the third, taking the lead 7-1.
The game was far from over, as the Brahmas scored five runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning, making the score 7-6 and leaving the home fans stunned by the violent scoring swings.
SBVC would regain some ground in the bottom of the fourth as freshman first baseman Claire Garcia (Redlands The Grove School) hit a one out single to left, then Medina reached on a fielder's choice which called out Garcia. Later in the inning Ponce would drive in Medina on an infield single, giving SBVC an 8-6 lead. Pierce would score another run in the top of the fifth, but the game had to be called as the Brahmas could only field 8 players in the bottom of the frame.
