SBVC Softball squeaks by Panthers, stands on top of Foothill Conference

SBVC (9-6; 2-0) found themselves once again in a pitcher's duel with a visiting team, and once again they ended up being the team on top thanks to another brilliant performance in the circle for Alicia Morris and timely hitting by Lauren Melchor giving SBVC the victory over the Rancho Cucamonga Chaffey Panthers (1-13, 1-1), 1-0.

Sophomore shortstop Lauren Melchor (Redlands East Valley) singled in the winning RBI in the bottom of the fifth, scoring freshman center fielder Evangelina Mosqueda (Riverside Poly) from second base. Mosqueda went 2 for2 with a run scored batting in the nine hole and Melchor 2 for 3 with a run batted in.

Sophomore right handed starting pitcher Alicia Morris (San Bernardino Cajon) grabbed her 7th win of the year, tossing a seven inning shutout, surrendering six hits, walking one and striking out eight.
