SBVC (25-13; 11-3) were in a jovial mood as the team honored its sophomore players, broke one record and tied three others, then torpedoed the Barstow Vikings (3-24; 3-11) in 5 innings, 15-1.
Sophomore short stop Lauren Melchor (Redlands East Valley) added another school record to her growing list as she set the single-season runs scored record by passing the efforts of Dawn Papandrea in 1997, scoring run number 47 and 48 this afternoon. Melchor went 1 for 3, with two runs scored and an RBI.
Sophomore right handed starting pitcher/first baseman Alicia Morris (San Bernardino Cajon) tied school records that were set by two different pitchers in 1988 and 1997 with her 16th win in the circle. Morris tossed three innings, surrendering a hit and striking out three, at the plate, she went 1 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
The team tied the 1987 team in total wins with 25 and can tie the 1988 team with 26 wins with a victory at Victor Valley on Friday, April 17. The team also tied the 2006 team in single season team doubles with 61.
Sophomore catcher Laurie Haro (San Bernardino Aquinas) had a fantastic day at the plate, batting in the two hole, she went 2 for 3 with three runs scored and three runs batted in. Sophomore third baseman Tina Acosta (Colton H.S.) and sophomore second baseman Serena Ovalles (Redlands H.S.) both went 1 for 2 and sophomore right fielder Alex Rubio (San Bernardino Arroyo Valley) went 0 for 2 with a run scored and an RBI.
Freshman left fielder Samantha Ojeda (Grand Terrace H.S.) went 2 for 2 and in the top of the third, freshman left fielder Jesikah Fortunato (Colton H.S.) subbed in going 2 for 2 with a run scored and two RBI's. Sophomore center fielder Ellen DeYoung (Redlands Arrowhead Christian) hit in the nine hole and went 1 for 1, grabbing a walk with three runs scored.
Sophomore first baseman/right handed pitcher Alese Graham (Redlands East Valley) wrapped up the game, throwing the final two innings, giving up a run, unearned, on four hits, striking out one. Graham went 1 for 3 with two RBI's at the plate.
SBVC opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, putting two runs up on the board. The home side quickly made the score 6-0 adding four runs in the second and added six more runs to make the score 12-0 in the third. Barstow would score an unearned run in the top of the fourth and SBVC responded by adding three more runs in the bottom of the frame.
