Wolverines Pick Up Pace at Golden West event

Oscar Gaspar Chavez finished 12th, and the San Bernardino Valley College men's cross country team had a tight gap among its top four finishers as the team finished fifth at the Golden West Invitiational at Huntington Beach Central Park.

Chavez clocked in at 22 minutes, 3.38 seconds over the four-mile course. Teammate Juan Hernandez was not far behind, crossing the line 17th at 22:12.19. The Wolverines' top four finishers finished with 1:10 of one another. The team was without Kevin Quinteros, who finished among the top runners at the season opening race in Redlands.

"We had a one through four gap of 1:10, which is way faster than we were at Redlands," coach Jim Ratigan said. "When Kevin returns, he will pull our top three guys along to faster times."

Logan Hernandez finished the race 28th, with a time of 22:40.62, while Adam Lunt was 42nd with a time of 23:13.66.

The Wolverines will race next at the San Diego Mesa Invitational.
