The San Bernardino Valley College men's cross country team had eight runners finish in the top 40 at the season opening University of Redlands Invitational.
The meet, featuring four-year schools from around the region, is a good early-season test for the team, coach Jim Ratigan said.
Sophomore Michael Ramirez was the first runner from SBVC across the line, finishing 11th with a time of 19.39.8 on the 6 kilometer course. Fellow sophomore Humberto Guzman was seven spots behind Ramirez, clocking a time of 20:00.8.
Freshmen Luis Garcia (20:23.9) and Isaiah Gonzalez (20.29.0) finished 27th and 29th respectively. Returning All-American Carlos de la Torre led a pack of three across the line at 34th, 35th and 36th places. De la Torre crossed at 20:51.5, followed by freshman Anthony Salgado at 20:51.8 and freshman Fernando Duenas at 20:52.6. Freshman Alvaro Heredia crossed 39th at 21:04.1.
