Wolverines Improve at Cal State San Bernardino Meet

Sophomore Michael Ramirez finished third overall and the San Bernardino Valley College men's cross country team finished second at the Coyote Challenge at Cal State San Bernardino on Sept. 22.

The event also served as the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference preview race, and featured junior college teams from across Southern California. Other PCAC teams participating in the race were San Diego City, San Diego Mesa, Imperial Valley and Palomar.

Coach Jim Ratigan was pleased with his team's performance after a tough week of training leading up to the race, especially compared to their eighth place finish in Cerritos.

Ramiriez finished the course in 20 minutes, 35.7 seconds, 11 seconds after race winner Marcelo Ramirez of Glendale. Glendale won the team title at the event.

Freshman Luis Garcia finished sixth for the Wolverines with a time of 20:56.6. Isaiah Gonzalez finished 13th in 21:11.9, followed by Carlos de la Torre, who finihsed 15th at 21:24.6, with Mauricio Ramos clocking in 17th at 21:29.8. Anthony Salgado finished 37th at 22:14.2 with Humberto Guzman right behind in 38th at 22:16.9.
