Wolverines Extend Conference Cross Country Dominance

The San Bernardino Valley College men's cross country team won its 22nd consecutive conference championship Friday, as the Wolverines swept the top three spots at the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Championships in Oceanside.

Freshmen Carlos de la Torre, Huberto Guzman and Eduardo Toris finished 1-2-3 at the meet, as the Wolverines placed six runners in the top nine finishers overall.

De La Torre (Jurupa Valley Patriot) was by himself at the finish, clocking in at 20 minutes, 31 seconds, a full 42 seconds ahead of Guzman (Rubidoux), who finished six seconds ahead of Toris (Hemet). De La Torre's time was a course record.

Sophomore John Hernandez (Canyon Springs) finished seventh in a time of 21:42, with Michael Ramirez (Grand Terrace) coming across at the same time. Mauricio Ramos (Big Bear) also crossed at 21:42, out of the scoring five for the Wolverines.

The Wolverines will now prepare for the Southern California Championships, set to take place next Friday in Santa Clarita.
