2014 Season in Review - Men's Cross Country

Second year coach Jim Ratigan guided his team to their 19th consecutive Foothill Conference Championship, then took a 3rd Place finish at the SoCal Finals with a 5th Place finish at the CCCAA State Championships. As a reward for their 24th Conference Championship, the team was bestowed with the Conference Coach of the Year award and Conference MVP along with eight All-Conference honors.

The top individual finisher at the CCCAA State Finals for SBVC placed 23rd in the four mile event, sophomore Douglas Palmer (Beaumont H.S.) with a time of 20:50.8. SBVC collected a score of 202 points at this event, finishing 5 points ahead of Cuesta College and 123 points behind the winner, College of the Canyons. The event was held at Woodward Park in Fresno.

The next highest finisher was sophomore Justin Doyle (San Bernardino Cajon) placing 26th with a time of 20:53.7. Finishing 47th was sophomore Anamacio Cardenas (Bloomington H.S.) with a time of 21:19.7 and placing 55th place was freshman Daniel Aguilera (Fontana Jurupa Hills) with a time of 21:23.8. Freshman Jose Escalante (Jurupa Valley H.S.) wrapped up the SBVC finishers with a time of 21:32.1, placing 55th.

The SBVC Men's Cross Country had one of the most dominant streaks in SoCal having won the SoCal Championship the past eight straight times, but even with a third place finish, they looked strong going into the CCCAA State Finals, the top individual finisher for SBVC placed 12th in the four mile event, Cardenas with a time of 20:37.73. SBVC collected a score of 135 points at this event, finishing 42 points ahead of Cuesta College and 45 points behind the winner, College of the Canyons. The event was held at Woodley Park in Van Nuys.

The next highest finisher for SBVC was Palmer placing 21st with a time of 20:48.09 and placing 22nd was Aguilera with a time of 20:49.14. Finishing 31st was Doyle with a time of 21:01.14 and freshman Derek Barnett (Redlands East Valley) wrapped up the SBVC finishers with a time of 21:26.27, placing 49th.

The SBVC Men's Cross Country team grabbed their 19th straight Foothill Conference Championship and 24th overall, the top individual finisher for SBVC placed 1st, Palmer with a time of 19:42. SBVC collected a perfect score of 15 points at this event, finishing 35 points ahead of Rio Hondo College. This year's Foothill Conference Championship was the last one to feature Rio Hondo College as they announced they will be discontinuing their Cross Country program. The event was held at Legg Lake in El Monte, SBVC runners took the first nine spots at the finish line.

The next highest finisher for SBVC was Cardenas placing 2nd with a time of 19:59 and placing 3rd was Doyle with a time of 20:02. Finishing 4th was Escalante with a time of 20:09 and Aguilera wrapped up the SBVC finishers with a time of 20:18, placing 5th.
