SBVC Runners Get Off to Strong Start

The SBVC men's and women's distance crew started the 2020 track and field campaign off in strong fashion Feb. 8 at Cerritos College.

The men's 4x800 relay squad of Elvis Rojas King, Kima Downey, Fernando Duenas and Kevin Quintero's took first, winning by over 18 seconds. Rojas and Quintero's both ran outstanding early season splits of 1:59 and 2:00. The duo came back to grab the top two places in the mile, with Quintero's running 4:32.09 and Rojas 4:36.15.

The top finishers for Valley in the 3K were Luis Garcia at 9:23.68 and Adam Lunt at 9:25.31 good for third and fourth. On the women's side, Kimberly Pena ran 11:27.23 to win the women's 3K by over 32 seconds. Pena came back later to take second in the 800 at 2:35.24 with teammate Jayda Martinez in third at 2:48.81.

SBVC returns to action this Saturday at the Pomona Pitzer all comers meet, which begins at 11:00am.
