Four members of the San Bernardino Valley College men's and women's track and field teams will participate in the California Community College Athletic Association state championships Friday and Saturday in Bakersfield after qualifying at the Southern California Regional Finals last week in San Diego.

Women's long jumper Dejanae Williams turned in her season best performance during the event, jumping 17 feet, 7 inches on her first jump, giving her the A standard qualifying mark she needed to qualify for the state meet. Her mark held up as the fifth best of the day, giving her fifth place and a trip to Bakersfield.

Joining Williams will be Derrick Affor, who had already qualified for this weekend in the decathlon. Affor finished eighth in the long jump at 21 feet, 8.25 inches, and eighth in the 110 hurdles, with a time of 15.25 seconds.

Carlos de la Torre, an All-American in cross country, will head to Bakersfield in the 5,000 meters. He finished 12th with a time of 15:42.80. Fellow distance runner Michael Ramirez qualifed the week before in the 10,000 meters.
