SBVC Men’s Track: Teran takes State title in 5k event, team finishes 15th

SBVC Men's Track & Field hit the road again for their final event of the 2016 season as they sent 3 student athletes to the California State Championships at San Diego Mesa College. SBVC participated in the 5000 meter run.

Once again, freshman distance runner Michael Teran (Fontana Jurupa Hills) continues to impress as he led SBVC to a State Championship in the 5000 meter run with a time of 14:57.05, 4.59 seconds ahead of his nearest opponent and good enough for 10 points. Teran dominated the distance circuit all season and won by shaving nearly 25 seconds off the time in his previous event.

Also in the 5000 meter run was freshman distance runner Luis Ortega (Fontana Jurupa Hills), who grabbed 5 points with a 4th place finish, crossing the line with a time of 15:03.37, just 0.48 seconds behind his nearest opponent.

Sophomore distance runner Derek Barnett (Redlands East Valley) also participated in the 5000 meter run, with Barnett finishing out of the points contention, crossing the line in 12th place, with a time of 15:46.71, which was 10.1 seconds faster than his last event.

With 15 points the team finished in 15th place in the State, breezing past fellow Pacific Coast Athletic Conference opponents Cuyamaca and San Diego Mesa.
