SBVC Men’s Track: Teran takes SoCal title in 5k event, team finishes 16th

SBVC Men's Track & Field hit the road again for their final regional event of the 2016 season as they sent 4 student athletes to the SoCal Finals at Antelope Valley College. SBVC participated in the 5000 meter run.

Once again, freshman distance runner Michael Teran (Fontana Jurupa Hills), continues to impress as he led SBVC to a SoCal Championship in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:22.55, just 2.03 seconds ahead of his nearest opponent and good enough for 10 points. Teran has dominated the distance circuit all season and takes his #1 state ranking into the CCCAA State Finals at San Diego Mesa on May 20th and 21st.

Also placing in the 5000 meter run was freshman distance runner Luis Ortega (Fontana Jurupa Hills), who grabbed 6 points with a 3rd place finish, crossing the line with a time of 15:24.66, just 0.02 seconds behind his nearest opponent.

Sophomore distance runner Derek Barnett (Redlands East Valley) and freshman distance runner David Hughes (Redlands East Valley) also participated in the 5000 meter run, with Barnett just finishing out of the points contention, crossing the line in 9th place, with a time of 15:56.81, which was 7.61 seconds behind his nearest opponent. Hughes grabbed an 18th place finish with a time of 16:20.24.

With 16 points the team finished in 16th place in SoCal, breezing past fellow Pacific Coast Conference opponent Southwestern.
