Freshman distance runner Michael Teran (Fontana Jurupa Hills) will be participating in two events, the 1500 meter run and possibly the 800 meter run. Teran is ranked #2 nationally in the 5000 meter run and earlier this week he received information that he was "auto qualified" for in the SoCal Finals at Antelope Valley College on May 14th. According to Track & Field head coach Mike Powell, Teran "is currently the only community college runner on the top ten list" in the 5K event.

Teran set the school record in the 5K on March 11th at the Occidental Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic where he led the way for SBVC, finishing 11th with a time of 14:23.90, which according to distance coach Jim Ratigan was enough to "assert himself as the fastest Wolverine ever over the 12.5 lap 5 kilometer distance (3.1 miles)." In addition, "Teran's time betters that of Gabriel Hernandez (14:35.2) from 1999."

Teran said of his approaching going into each contest, "my goal is to dominate, set up a time to hit that next gear at my choosing, picking my time to set the tempo and not my opponents." He also commented about his thoughts on running the 5K, "I have to get past that first mile by 4:30 and if I get through the second mile by 9:05 or less, I'm in a good spot to finish strong in the final stretch."

On Tuesday, Teran was named Honorable Mention Student Athlete of the Month for the Month of March by the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) & California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA).

The Men's 1500 meter final will take place at 2:10 p.m. and the Men's 800 meter final will take place at 3:30 p.m.
