SBVC Men’s Track & Field finishes 1-2-3 in 1500 meters at Redlands Invitational

SBVC Men's Track & Field hit the road again for their fifth event of the 2016 season as they sent 20 student athletes to the University of Redlands for the Redlands Invitational. SBVC participated in the 100 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, 1500 meter run, 3000 meter steeplechase, 4x400 meter relay, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus throw, hammer throw and the javelin throw.

Sophomore distance runner Derek Barnett (Redlands East Valley), freshman distance runner Michael Teran (Fontana Jurupa Hills) and freshman distance runner Luis Ortega (Fontana Jurupa Hills) finished "1-2-3" in the 1500 meters. Barnett finished with a time of 4:01.10, Teran collected a time of 4:01.98 and Ortega crossed the line with a time of 4:08.16.

SBVC finished in 3rd place in the 4x400 meter relay as the team put up a time of 3:36.17, dropping 4.73 seconds off of their previous best. Freshman relay runner Tony Salter (Grand Terrace H.S.) opened things up then handed off to freshman relay runner Kelvon Tisby (Rialto W.A. Carter), who gave it to freshman relay runner Tre'veon Dozier (San Bernardino Pacific) and then freshman sprints runner Jonte West (Beaumont H.S.) was handed the anchor leg.

Freshman distance runner Josh Lopez (Jurupa Valley Rubidoux) crossed the finish line after the grueling 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:40.56, which was good enough for 4th place.

Barnett would grab another top finish with a 4th place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.94 and Teran was only 2.02 seconds behind, finishing with a time of 1:59.96, good enough for 8th place.

Freshman jumper Johnny Moss (Romoland Heritage) helped SBVC to a 6th place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.91 meters and Dozier collected a 5th place finish with a distance of 6.05 meters.

Freshman thrower Andre Bishop (San Bernardino Pacific) and freshman thrower Santiago Castillo (San Bernardino Pacific) each competed in the shot put, discus throw and the hammer throw events. Castillo grabbed a 7th place finish in the shot put with a distance of 11.34 meters and Bishop finished with a distance of 9.71 meters, which was good enough for 9th place. In the discus throw, Bishop finished with a distance of 32.91 meters, collecting 10th place and Castillo launched a 12th place finish with a distance of 32.08 meters, improving on his previous best by 5.69 meters. In the hammer throw, Bishop ended up with a 10th place finish as he made a distance of 33.42 meters and Castillo put up a 14th place finish, with a distance of 26.21 meters.
