SBVC Men’s Track & Field finishes 2nd in 3K run at CSULA Invitational

SBVC Men's Track & Field hit the road again for their third event of the 2016 season as they sent 20 student athletes to Cal State LA in University Hills for the CSULA Invitational. SBVC participated in the 4x400 meter relay, 3000 meter run, 1500 meter run, 800 meter run, 400 meter dash, triple jump, and the shot put.

Freshman distance runner Michael Teran (Fontana Jurupa Hills) led the way for SBVC in the 3000 meter run "taking 2nd in the invitational heat with an 8:21.61 clocking," according to distance coach Jim Ratigan. The finish for Teran, "dropped his school record in the 3000 meter run by 6 seconds."

In the same 3000 meter event, coach Ratigan commented that, "teammate, freshman distance runner Luis Ortega (Fontana Jurupa Hills) finished 12th at 8:40.29, while Sophomore distance runner Derek Barnett (Redlands East Valley) dropped 14 seconds off his previous best to finish in 8:43.81 (16th place)." Coach Ratigan continued, "Tehran continues to be the California Community College leader at the distance by over 13 seconds, while Ortega is now 4th and Barnett 7th. Freshman distance runner David Hughes (Redlands East Valley) dropped 13 seconds off of his best to clock 9:03.23 to take 12th in heat 2. Freshman distance runner Josh Lopez (Jurupa Valley Rubidoux) dropped 14 seconds off of his best of two weeks ago to finish in 9:16.04 over the 7.5 lap distance."

SBVC finished in 10th place in the 4x400 meter relay as the team put up a time of 3:34.47, freshman relay runner Tre'veon Dozier (San Bernardino Pacific) opened things up then handed off to freshman relay runner Isaiah Jamison (Fontana Henry J. Kaiser), who gave it to freshman relay runner Kelvon Tisby (Rialto W.A. Carter) and then freshman relay runner Tony Salter (Grand Terrace H.S.) was handed the anchor leg.

Freshman jumper Johnny Moss (Romoland Heritage) helped SBVC to an 11th place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 12.29 meters and sophomore jumper Lawrence Carter (San Bernardino Cajon) collected a 15th place finish with a distance of 11.10 meters.

Freshman thrower Andre Bishop (San Bernardino Pacific) competed in the shot put grabbing a 23rd place finish with a distance of 10.42 meters.

Top finisher for SBVC in the 1500 meter run was freshman distance runner Omar Arroyo (Riverside Norte Vista) who finished with a time of 4:41.52, good enough for 75th place. Top finisher for SBVC in the 400 meter dash was Tisby who finished with a time of 54.53, good enough for 37th place. Top finisher for SBVC in the 800 meter run was freshman distance runner Eubrey Camacho (Colton H.S.) who finished with a time of 2:07.23, good enough for 36th place.
