SBVC Men’s Track & Field finishes 1st in 4K distance medley at Cerritos Opener

SBVC Men's Track & Field hit the road again for their second event of the 2016 season as they sent 11 student athletes to Cerritos College in Norwalk for the Cerritos Opener. SBVC participated in the 4x400 meter relay, 4,000 meter distance medley, long Jump, shot put, discus throw and the hammer throw.

SBVC won the 4,000 meter distance medley with a time of 10:18.14 and unlike most track relays, each member of the team runs a different distance. Running the 1200 meter leg was sophomore distance runner Derek Barnett (Redlands East Valley), running the 400 meter leg was freshman relay runner Tony Salter (Grand Terrace H.S.), running the 800 meter leg was freshman distance runner Luis Ortega (Fontana Jurupa Hills) and grabbing the anchor 1600 meter leg was freshman distance runner Michael Teran (Fontana Jurupa Hills). The effort, according to distance coach Jim Ratigan, "missed the school record by 4.5 seconds." Stating that, "the Wolverines, behind an excellent 1600 leg by Teran, defeated runner up Mt. San Antonio by 4.88 seconds." Two other SBVC teams grabbed 9th and 10th place finishes respectively.

SBVC finished in 9th place in the 4x400 meter relay as the team put up a time of 3:40.90, freshman relay runner Tre'veon Dozier (San Bernardino Pacific) opened things up then handed off to freshman relay runner Isaiah Jamison (Fontana Henry J. Kaiser), who gave it to freshman relay runner Kelvon Tisby (Rialto W.A. Carter) and then Salter was handed the anchor leg.

Sophomore jumper Lawrence Carter (San Bernardino Cajon) helped SBVC to a 20th place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.16 meters and Dozier collected a 15th place finish with a distance of 5.92 meters.

Freshman thrower Andre Bishop (San Bernardino Pacific) and freshman thrower Santiago Castillo (San Bernardino Pacific) each competed in the shot put, discus throw and the hammer throw events. Castillo grabbed a 7th place finish in the shot put with a distance of 11.87 meters and Bishop finished with a distance of 10.99 meters, which was good enough for 14th place. In the discus throw, Bishop finished with a distance of 35.34 meters, collecting 15th place and Castillo launched a 28th place finish with a distance of 26.39 meters. In the hammer throw, Bishop ended up with a 10th place finish as he made a distance of 31.53 meters and Castillo put up a 13th place finish, with a distance of 30.84 meters.
