SBVC Men’s Track & Field opens up the 2016 season at the All Comers Meet

SBVC Men's Track & Field began the 2016 season with a bang as they sent 14 student athletes to Pitzer College in Pomona for the All Comers Meet. SBVC participated in the 4x400 meter relay, 1000 meter run, 1 mile run and the 3000 meter run.

Freshman distance runner Michael Teran (Fontana Jurupa Hills) led SBVC with a 2nd place finish in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:27.63, which, according to distance coach Jim Ratigan, "This is the top time in the state and I believe an SBVC school record." Also in the same race freshman distance runner Luis Ortega (Fontana Jurupa Hills) ran 8:41.51 for 11th place and the #2 time in the state.

Sophomore distance runner Derek Barnett (Redlands East Valley) ran 8:57.59 for 27th place finish in the 3000 meter run, which places him at #11 in California for community college athletes.

Barnett was the top finisher for SBVC in the 1000 meter run as he grabbed a very respectable 2:35.48 for a 14th place finish. Ortega collected a 22nd place finish in the same race with a time of 2:40.77.

Teran came back to clock 4:16.57 in the 1 mile run, which coach Ratigan said, "converts to a 3:57 in the 1500 meter run. This would also be a state leading mark." Freshman distance runner Antonio Sanchez (Jurupa Valley Rubidoux) was the next SBVC finisher, putting up a time of 4:38.01, good enough to place 39th.

SBVC also finished in 10th place in the 4x400 meter relay as the team put up a time of 3:41.18, freshman relay runner Tre'veon Dozier (San Bernardino Pacific) opened things up then handed off to freshman relay runner Isaiah Jamison (Fontana Henry J. Kaiser), who gave it to freshman relay runner Kelvon Tisby (Rialto W.A. Carter) and then freshman relay runner Tony Salter (Grand Terrace H.S.) was handed the anchor leg.
