SBVC Men’s Track & Field finishes 10th at the SoCal Finals

SBVC Men's Track & Field traveled to Riverside City College for the Southern California Finals, finishing tenth as a team behind eventual champion, Riverside City, but grabbed top three finishes in the 3000 meter steeplechase, the discus throw and the triple jump. SBVC will send four Men's Track & Field student athletes to the CCCAA State Finals at Mt. San Antonio, May 17th and 18th.

The Southern California Finals were won by three-time defending SoCal champions Riverside City with a total of 170 points, 33 points ahead of their nearest competitor, Mt. San Antonio, and 143 points ahead of SBVC, which finished tenth with 27 points.

 The top finisher for SBVC was in the triple jump, where sophomore Darrian Frazier (Redlands Citrus Valley) took second place with a distance of 14.33 meters. Not to be out done, sophomore Ahmed Abdul-Rahman (Riverside Martin Luther King, Jr.) grabbed third place in the discus throw with a distance of 48.82 meters and freshman Anamacio Cardenas (Bloomington H.S.) took third in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:32.56.

 SBVC collected a fifth place finish in the 1500 meter run, with freshman Oscar Caro (Riverside Norte Vista) crossing the finish line with a time of 4:02.07. The long jump produced a seventh place finish from sophomore Ryan Jones (San Bernardino Cajon) with a distance of 6.81 meters. SBVC then grabbed an eighth place finish from Caro with a time of 2:08.40.

 The top individuals in the running events (Top 4, 100M to 800M; Top 6 all other running events) and the top 6 in the field events will qualify for the CCCAA State Track and Field Championships which will be held at historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium on Friday and Saturday, May 16th and 17th.
