SBVC Men’s Track & Field finishes 5th at Cal Poly Pomona Preview

SBVC Men's Track & Field sent 22 student athletes to the Cal Poly Pomona Preview at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut on February 28th. Of the 18 events, SBVC participated in 10 events, seven finished in the top 15, six of which were top 10, and one finished in the top 5.

SBVC claimed third place finisher in the javelin throw, as well as sixth place in the hammer throw, eighth in the 4 x 400 meter relay, ninth place in the 400 meter dash, and 12th place in the 3000 meter run.

 Finishing third in the javelin throw was sophomore Cody Woodruff (Lake Arrowhead Rim of the World) who threw for a distance of 38.36 meters, 7.35 meters ahead of his nearest competition. Finishing sixth in the hammer throw was sophomore Demetrius Howard (San Bernardino Cajon) who came in with a distance of 36.19 meters, 1.26 meters ahead of his nearest competition. SBVC also finished 9th, 11th and 12th in the hammer throw.

 SBVC also claimed 12th in the 1500 meter run with freshman Derek Barnett (Redlands East Valley) leading the way with a time of 4:07.35, which was 0.45 faster than his nearest competition. SBVC also finished 19th, 25th, 31st and 33rd in the 1500 meter run. Sophomore Jacob Concha (San Bernardino Pacific) collected a ninth place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 54.62.

 The 3000 meter run had SBVC finishing 12th, with sophomore Douglas Palmer (Beaumont H.S.) taking a time of 8:50.79, right on his heals was his SBVC running mate, sophomore Justin Doyle (San Bernardino Cajon) with a time of 8:51.54. SBVC also finished 20th, 22nd and 24th in the 3000 meter run.

 The SBVC 4 x 400 relay team claimed 8th with a time of 3:44.87.
