SBVC Men’s Track & Field wins 2 individual Conference titles, finishes 4th

SBVC Men's Track & Field sent 16 student athletes to the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Finals at San Diego Mesa in Clairemont Mesa on April 18th. Of the 20 events, SBVC participated in 14 events, nine of which were top 10, ten finished in the top 5 and grabbed a Conference Championship in the 1500 meter run and the 5000 meter run.

SBVC claimed second place in the discus throw, second in the 800 meter run and second in the 3000 meter steeplechase. The Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Finals were won by defending Conference champions San Diego Mesa with a total of 275 points, 121 points ahead of their nearest competitor, Southwestern, and 155 points ahead of SBVC, which finished fourth with 120 points. The participation of distance runners accounted for 88 of the 120 points, equaling 73%.

Finishing first in the 1500 meter run was sophomore Douglas Palmer (Beaumont H.S.) with a time of 4:05.28, which was 0.13 seconds ahead of his nearest opponent. Freshman Derek Barnett (Redlands East Valley) finished fourth and freshman Alejandro Castellanos (Romoland Heritage) finished seventh.

Sophomore Justin Doyle (San Bernardino Cajon) finished first in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:37.30, which was 6.93 seconds ahead of his nearest opponent. Palmer finished fourth, Castellanos finished fifth and freshman Daniel Aguilera (Fontana Jurupa Hills) grabbed a seventh place finish.

Finishing second in the discus throw was sophomore Demetrius Howard (San Bernardino Cajon) with a distance of 39.60 meters, which was 0.27 meters ahead of his nearest opponent. Freshman Gabriel Kane (San Bernardino Cajon) finished second in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:58.18, which was 2.3 seconds ahead of his nearest opponent, which happened to be teammate Barnett. Sophomore Monrelle Wilson (Rialto Eisenhower) finished fifth and sophomore Jacob Concha (San Bernardino Pacific) finished sixth.

Grabbing a second place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase was Aguilera with a time of 10:05.14, which was 19.65 seconds ahead of his nearest opponent, which happened to be teammate freshman Nicholas Cohenour (Moreno Valley Canyon Springs). Sophomore Ty Oshea (Bloomington H.S.) finished sixth and freshman Richardo Sanchez (Bloomington H.S.) finished eighth.
