SBVC Men's Track & Field sent 20 student athletes to the University of Redlands Invitational in Redlands on March 20th. Of the 19 events, SBVC participated in nine events, 20 of which were top 10, three finished in the top 5 and three in the top 3.
SBVC claimed third place in the hammer throw, third in the discus throw, third in the 4x100 meter relay, fourth in the 1500 meter run, fifth in the javelin throw and sixth in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Finishing third in the hammer throw was freshman Jose De La Cruz (Beaumont H.S.) who came in with a distance of 34.72 meters, 4.06 meters ahead of his nearest competition. Sophomore Demetrius Howard (San Bernardino Cajon) grabbed a third place finish in the discus throw with a distance of 37.34 meters, 0.7 meters ahead of his nearest competition. The 4x100 meter relay team finished in third place with a time of 53.31, leading off the relay was Howard, followed by freshman Javier Lora (Bloomington H.S.) and freshman Deshire Singleton (Fontana Jurupa Hills), then anchored by freshman Santiago Castillo (San Bernardino Pacific).
Grabbing a fourth place finish in the 1500 meter run was freshman Derek Barnett (Redlands East Valley) with a time of 4:05.20, which was 0.78 seconds ahead of his nearest opponent. Finishing fifth in the javelin throw was sophomore Cody Woodruff (Lake Arrowhead Rim of the World) who threw for a distance of 38.02 meters, 0.21 meters ahead of his nearest competition.
Freshman Nelson Rocha (Fontana Jurupa Hills) collected a sixth place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:17.81, which was 15.76 seconds ahead of his nearest opponent.
