SBVC Men’s Track & Field advances at Pacific Coast Conference Prelims

SBVC Men's Track & Field sent 16 student athletes to the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Finals at San Bernardino Valley College. Of the nine events, SBVC participated in seven events, seven of which were top 10, four of which were top 5 and four finished in the top 3.

Participants in the PCAC Prelims included: Southwestern, San Diego Mesa, San Bernardino Valley, Cuyamaca and Chaffey.

SBVC claimed third place in the 1500 meter run, third in the 800 meter run, third in the triple jump, third in the 10K, and fourth in the javelin throw. All of the throws events and the 10,000 meter run were Conference finals and the remaining events, plus the team championship will be decided at the PCAC Finals on the campus of San Diego Mesa College on Saturday, April 18.

Finishing third in the 10,000 meter run was sophomore Justin Doyle (San Bernardino Cajon) with a time of 34:06.99, which was 1.7 seconds ahead of his nearest opponent, which happened to be teammate sophomore Jon Dileva (Rancho Cucamonga H.S.).

Freshman Derek Barnett (Redlands East Valley) finished third in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:04.28, which was 1.28 seconds ahead of his nearest opponent. Barnett also finished third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:03.38, which was 0.66 seconds ahead of his nearest opponent, which happened to be teammate freshman Gabriel Kane (San Bernardino Cajon).

Finishing third in the triple jump was freshman Kaelin Polk (Victorville Silverado) with a distance of 10.69 meters and sophomore Cody Woodruff (Lake Arrowhead Rim of the World) finished fourth in the javelin throw with a distance of 39.77 meters, which was 1.63 meters ahead of his nearest opponent.
