Daniel Rodas had a goal and assist, and Jesus Pineda had a pair of assists as the San Bernardino Valley College men's soccer team snapped a six-game winless streak with a 4-0 victory over College of the Desert in an Inland Empire Athletic Conference game.
SBVC, which had been 0-4-2 in its last six games, dominated possession for most of the game, earning eight corner kicks to one for Desert, and firing eight shots on goal compared to only two from the Roadrunners.
The Wolverines finally broke through in the 29th minute on a quick attack up the middle of the field. Rodas gathered the ball about 40 yards out, then sent a ball through the Desert defense to a streaking Andres Aceves - who had just entered the game. Aceves ran onto the ball and fired the ball inside the far post, beating Desert goalkeeper Samuel Guzman for a 1-0 halftime lead.
SBVC pushed forward in the second half, putting pressure on the Desert defense, earning a penalty kick in the 61st minute. Adrian Ayon stepped up and blasted the ball into the net to double the lead. About nine minutes later, Rodas took a pass from Pineda and slotted into the net for a 3-0 lead. SBVC closed the scoring in the 81st minute, as Eric Ramos collected a long ball from Pineda on the right side, and turned and fired it into the net to close the scoring.
Matthew Guzman had two saves to lead the Wolverines to the clean sheet, with Diego Martinez closing out the game in net for the final eight-plus minutes.
