Herrera Leads Way as Wolverines Ground Comets

Hugo Herrera had two goals and an assist as the San Bernardino Valley College men's soccer team used a three-goal second half to knock off Palomar College 4-0 in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game Friday afternoon at SBVC.

Herrera opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, as he knocked home a pass from Gabriel Sousa for a 1-0 lead that would last through the first half. The Wolverines dominated play throughout the first 45 minutes, taking 11 shots and earning four corner kicks.

The Wolverines broke it open in a four-minute strech in the second half. Herrera found himself on the end of a pass to the far post from Ramon Nunez for another goal. Then, a long throw-in from Cameron Smith was flicked on by Herrera to the back post, where Jason Hernandez poked the ball home for a 3-0 lead.

Lance Diaz II finished the scoring in the 88th minute as Sousa picked up his second assist on the game.

SBVC dominated the flow of the play throughout, allowing only three shots for the Comets, none of which ended up on goal. Goaltender Luis Enrquez went the distance, earning the clean sheet with zero saves.
