Johan Rodriguez's strike from about 25 yards out beat San Bernardino Valley College goaltender Christopher Gomez in the 73rd minute to lift Taft College to a 1-0 victory Friday afternoon inside SBVC Stadium.

Rodriguez's shot came through a screen and snuck inside the right post past Gomez, whose dive was just short to keep the ball out of the goal.

The Wolverines had chances in the first 10 minutes of each half, but were unable to get shots through the Taft defense. Taft, the No. 3 team in the state, only allowed four shots on goaltender Brandon Garcia, with San Bernardino firing 17 shots in total toward the goal.

Gomez split time in goal with Luis Enriquez. Both goaltenders made three saves in 45 minutes of action.
