SBVC Silences Coyotes in Battle Atop Conference

Two goals in the first 20 minutes of the game was all the San Bernardino Valley College men's soccer team needed Tuesday, as they scored four more as they beat Cuyamaca 6-1 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play.

Andrew Quiroz took a pass from Jose Hernandez and slotted it into the left side of the goal in the 14th minute to give the Wolverines the early lead. About four minutes later, from about 25 yards out, Juan Luna put a free kick in the upper left hand corner of the goal, and SBVC had an early 2-0 lead.

Meanwhile the SBVC defense was limiting chances for Cuyamaca. The Coyotes only had four shots on goal in the game, with one of those coming on a penalty kick goal by Wahib Awarek in the 86th minute.

SBVC continued to score goals in bunches the rest of the way. Cesar Barrera and Eiglio Ibarra scored less than a minute apart to close out the first half with the Wolverines up 4-0.

In the second half, Santiago Mejia and Cameron Smith scored less than 10 minutes apart to give the Wolverines a 6-0 lead. Mejia broke in from the right wing, and chipped the ball over a defender, chased it down and finished the goal in a great individual effort. Smith hit a free kick from about 5 yards past the midfield stripe that dipped underneath the bar as goaltender Miguel Angel Munoz misjudged the kick.
