SBVC Men’s Soccer breaks out of home game funk, dispatches the Roadrunners, 2-1

SBVC (6-2-3; 4-1) has had a little difficulty scoring goals at home, today they changed that luck with a victory over the Palm Desert College of the Desert Roadrunners (1-6-2; 1-3-1), 2-1.

SBVC had not scored a goal at home in three weeks, a 1-1 tie versus Fullerton on September 9th, but that changed early in the 15th minute as freshman defender Hugo Herrera (Indio Shadow Hills) collected a pass from freshman defender Gerardo Munoz (Rancho Mirage H.S.) and riffled the shot into the back of the net to give SBVC an early 1-0 lead.

SBVC freshman goal keeper Abraham Garces (El Paso (TX) Parkland) was brilliant in net making three saves in the first half, before letting in an equalizing goal that ricocheted off of a few knees and ankles before poking in during injury time in the first half, tying the game at 1-1 going into the break.

The home side would untie the game in the 68th minute, when, once again, Herrera struck gold as he took a pass from sophomore midfielder Fernando Ramirez (Corona H.S.) at midfield and scooted through four Roadrunners defenders before pounding a shot past the diving keeper, giving SBVC a 2-1 lead.

SBVC would lead in shots with 22, compared to the Desert 15 shots on the afternoon.
