SBVC Men’s Soccer remains undefeated, ties Hornets, 1-1

SBVC (2-0-2) received another dynamic performance from their keeper, sophomore Sergio Torres (Hobbs, NM), who made the save of the year in the 12th minute as the home side survived another test, this time against the Fullerton Hornets (4-0-1), 1-1.

SBVC broke up the Hornets unbeaten streak, a Fullerton team who came into today's contest with four consecutive wins to start the season. Both sides put their best boot forward as SBVC lagged a little in the first half shots department with 7 total shots, compared to Fullerton who took 10. That all turned around in the second half, as SBVC unloaded an arsenal of attempts totaling 21 for the game, compared to just four in the second half for the Hornets. This was a complete change from the first home game earlier in the week, as the game went longer, SBVC got much stronger and the tackles more intense.

Fullerton opened up the scoring just before halftime in the 44th minute, as the Hornets were swarming around the SBVC net and no home player could get a foot out to clear the ball. Inevitably, the longer the Hornets swarmed, the better the opportunity and they stung with a vengeance, crushing the ball past the keeper to give Fullerton a huge 1-0 lead.

In the 64th minute, SBVC equalized when freshman midfielder Eduardo Garcia (Moreno Valley Rancho Verde) lobbed a cross in front of the net and sophomore forward Alexis Nolasco (Bloomington H.S.) rifled a shot past the keeper, as the home bench erupted in cheers and tying the game at 1-1.

The next game for SBVC is their first Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game at the Cuyamaca Coyotes on Tuesday, September 13th.
