SBVC Men’s Soccer salvages a tie out of the Huskies, 1-1

SBVC (2-0-1) welcomed a very tough Monterey Park East Los Angeles Huskies (0-2-2) team only to find out they were peskier than expected, but after a game tying goal in the 83rd minute, SBVC's perfect record remained intact, 1-1.

SBVC brought the house early, hoping to get an advantage on the Huskies as both teams aggressively fought for every possession. SBVC put the ball on net seven times in the first half alone and anyone in attendance will affirm, that the home side had their shots on target. The Huskies keeper had to make impressive save, after impressive save in order to keep the visitors in the game. Both teams would go into the locker room at half time, tied at 0-0.

In the 66th minute, East Los Angeles was attacking the south goal, when one of their players slipped to the left, inside of the goal box and was taken down by an SBVC player. The official immediately awarded a penalty kick and after placing that kick into the lower right corner of the goal, the Huskies led 1-0.

With better than 23 minutes left, SBVC had plenty of time to equalize, but as the minutes ticked down that opportunity to stay undefeated looked illusive. Alas, in the 83rd minute, a glimmer of hope as freshman forward Miguel Chavez (Torrance North) clobbered a shot at the Huskies keeper, which deflected to the right and was brought down by sophomore midfielder Fernando Ramirez (Corona H.S.) who lobbed the shot in from about 20 yards out, to tie the game at 1-1.

The next seven minutes turned into over ten minutes, including injury time as players were falling all over each other. So devastating were the injuries it required the trainer to make a visit to the field, only to have the player miraculously healed as if by some, otherworldly force. Needless to say, the remaining time proved to be very intense, as neither team would yield in this tug-of-war between two tough teams.
