SBVC Men’s Soccer is frustrated with tie against Warriors, 1-1

SBVC (3-2-4) keeps getting their opportunities, dominating on shots taken and corners once again, but only one of those chances turned into a goal, as they tied the Torrance El Camino Warriors (1-5-1), 1-1.

Freshman starting goalkeeper Alexis Primera (Colton H.S.) once again was peppered early, only allowing an early goal, but held strong as he made three huge saves and the SBVC defense took care of the rest.

The Warriors took the quick lead in the 2nd minute as they swarmed the net and poked a shot past the diving Primera to give El Camino the early 1-0 lead.

SBVC equalized in the 34th minute as the SBVC forwards and midfielders crashed the net and after a redirect from sophomore midfielder Bryan Oropeza (Corona H.S.), the ball was pounded into the top of the net by sophomore midfielder Robert Morales (Riverside Poly) to tie that game at 1-1.

Right before halftime, it appeared that SBVC had taken the lead as freshman defender Danny Castillo (Lake Elsinore Lakeside) snuck behind the Warriors defense and tapped a shot into the back of the net. While the far side judge kept his flag down, signaling that the scoring player was onside when the ball crossed the goal line, the referee in the middle waved off the attempt.

Once again, SBVC controlled the shots taken with 21 total shots, compared to El Camino, which took only 12. SBVC also had 12 corner kicks, compared to the Warriors three.
