SBVC Men's Soccer sneaks by the Hornets late, 2-1

SBVC (2-2-1) scored in the first five minutes of the game and watched a fantastic effort by their opponents fall into the back of the net before halftime, but the team rallied late and rifled a goal past the keeper in the 89th minute to give the home side the victory over the Fullerton Hornets (1-4), 2-1.

Prior to the game, both teams honored a moment of silence for the 14th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.

SBVC freshman starting goalkeeper Alexis Primera (Colton H.S.) held the Hornets to only one score at the 41st minute of play and had an incredible five saves throughout the entirety of the match helping seal the victory for SBVC.

SBVC made quick work on offense scoring the first goal of the game at the fifth minute of play from freshman midfielder Danny Meza (Fontana Jurupa Hills) and was assisted by freshman forward Eduardo Lopez (San Bernardino San Gorgonio). SBVC held the lead nearly the entire first half until the Hornets tied it up just minutes before halftime, making the score 1-1.

Both teams came out swinging for the second half of play and were eager to get the next score of the game.  With only a few minutes remaining, it was SBVC freshman midfielder Hector Hernandez (Moreno Valley Canyon Springs) that scored the winning goal from a tremendous assist by freshman forward Luis Hernandez (Riverside La Sierra).  SBVC held the lead throughout the extended extra time, beating the Fullerton Hornets 2-1.

SBVC's next game will be September 15th at Pasadena City and their next home game is slated for September 25th against El Camino at 4 p.m.
