Fall Season Preview - Men's Soccer

SBVC Men's Soccer ended the 2014 regular season having won seven games and finishing the regular season with an overall record of 7-8-5 and with a 3-2-3 Foothill Conference record.

Veteran head coach Josh Brown, in his tenth season, also had six players named to the All-Conference team last year.

In 2014, Brown had six All-Foothill Conference players, including midfielder Jason Goicochea, defender Brian Aguilar and defender Michiel Nijsten were all named first team. Following close by, those named second team All-Foothill Conference were goal keeper Saul Alcaraz, defender Juan Maldonado and midfielder Alex Cortez.

Returning to the field this year for Coach Brown is midfielder Jonathan Mendoza (Rubidoux H.S.), forward Bryan Oropeza (Corona H.S), and forward Jose Castaneda (Lake Arrowhead Rim of the World). Coach Brown is looking to his returning players, Mendoza, Oropeza and Castaneda, along with 2013 player midfielder Robert Moralez (Riverside Poly) to play hard,  graduate and to transfer on to a 4-year college or university.

Coach Brown has high expectations for his players every season and looks to be a "lifelong coach" for each of his student athletes, emphasizing that "student" is first in "student athlete" and that it is truly "all about education."

Men's Soccer is in hope of a fresh start after missing the playoffs last season, bringing together a strong all-star cast of freshmen from all over the area and transfers from 4-year universities.

Coach Brown assembled one of his toughest schedules yet, including seven playoff teams in his non-Conference schedule. His team will be traveling to Southwestern on September 4 and at East Los Angeles on September 8. Men's Soccer will travel to Santiago Canyon on September 18 and the team is at Santa Ana on September 22. The longest road trip of the year takes them to last season's number one seed in Northern California, with a visit to Taft on October 20.

On the home slate of 2014 playoff teams, SBVC will be hosting Fullerton on September 11, El Camino on September 25, and regional and Foothill Conference rival, Chaffey, on November 10th.

The goal, as is the case every season, is to win more games than the previous season, but ultimately to win get to the State Championship at De Anza College in Cupertino and win it all. Coach Brown commented, that "he is optimistic and confident his team will do really well this year in order to achieve their goal."
