The San Bernardino Valley College men's basketball team went on a 13-4 run early in the second half, and started making its shots to beat Copper Mountain College to win the championship of the Alvin Hunter Classic on Sunday at SBVC.
The two teams battled to a 32-32 tie after 20 minutes, and after Copper Mountain took the lead to start the second half, the Wolverines picked up its shooting success. SBVC had only made 42 percent of its shots in the first half. But, the second 20 minutes, shots started falling for the Wolverines, as they made 56 percent of their shots in the second half, led by 15 points from Nathan Pendarvis and 13 more from Brandon Betson. Betson ended with a game-high 24 points, while Pendarvis had 17 points and 10 assists for the game. Pendarvis was chosen the tournament's most valuable player.
Cameron Butler continued his strong weekend, adding a double-double of his own with 14 points and 11 rebounds to help the Wolverines.
The defense also pressured Copper Mountain throughout the night, forcing the Fighting Cacti into 22 turnovers, with the Wolverines registering 10 steals.
