The Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division champion San Bernardino Valley College men’s basketball team was honored with the top awards in the all-conference selections, as chosen by coaches.

Coach Quincy Brewer was named the North Division coach of the year, after leading the Wolverines to the championship of the division with a 9-1 record. After a somewhat shaky start to the season, the Wolverines rolled off a 14-game winning streak, including winning the first eight games of conference play to clinch at least a share of the title with a week to play.

Center Roman Silva was named co-player of the year for the North Division. The 7-foot-1 center from Diamond Ranch High School has been a dominant force in the middle for SBVC this season. He has averaged 16.2 points per game (16.5 in conference play) and 7.9 rebounds per game (7.1 in conference). He shared the top honor with Mt. San Jacinto’s David Thompson.

Named to the first team with Sliva were Damani Washington and Nathan Pendarvis. Washington, a sophomore from Leuzinger High School, averaged 16 points per game during conference play. Pendarvis, a freshman from Oklahoma City Storm School in Oklahoma City, Ok., had 92 assists in the 10-game conference season, while making 50.6 percent of his shots from the field.

The conference’s second team included the Wolverines’ other two starters, Eric Hancik and K’Lon Williams, while sixth-man Brandon Thompson earned honorable mention.

The Wolverines open the CCCAA State Playoffs on Friday as the No. 9 seed, and will travel to Chula Vista to take on Pacific Coast Athletic Conference South Division champion Southwestern. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Southwestern won the PCAC-South with a 10-0 record, and have won 15 in a row. The Jaguars have a 24-4 record on the season and are 11-1 at home.
