The San Bernardino Valley College men's basketball team won its 12th game in a row Friday night, but it wasn't always pretty.
The Wolverines got off to a slow start from the field, and only shot 49.3 percent for the game, but a stifiling defense led SBVC to a 89-59 win over San Diego Miramar in the opening game of the second half of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division season.
It was a balanced attack that helped the Wolverines through the night. Center Roman Silva continued his strong play in the middle, leading the team with 19 points - including a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line - and adding nine rebounds. Arian Azemi came off the bench with 18 points - going 3-for-3 from three-point range. K'Lon Williams added 16 points, Damani Washington had 15 and Nathan Pendarvis had 11 - along with 10 assists.
Meanwhile, the Wolverines' defense was grounding the Jets' attack. Miramar only made 32.8 percent of its shots on the night, with only two players scoring in double figures - Blake Seits with 18 and Artis Chapman with 13. Miramar committed 16 turnovers in the game.
