Second Half Struggles Sink Wolverines

A bruising pressure defense by East Los Angeles College held the San Bernardino Valley College men's basketball team to only 25 points in the second half as the Huskies overcame a nine-point halftime deficit to beat the Wolverines 81-72 Sunday night in the final game of the Alvin Hunter Classic.

This year's event did not include a tournament-style bracket, with every team playing three games over the three-day event.

The Wolverines got out to the lead in the first half by shooting 53.6 percent from the field. Arian Azemi led the way with nine points (including 7-of-9 from the free throw line), while Eric Hancik added seven more.

But the Huskies' pressure sank the Wolverines in the second half, as they only made 27.6 percent of their shots in the final 20 minutes, with no player earning more than six points.

Hancik led the way for the Wolverines in the game, scoring 13 points, while Nathan Pendarvis ended with 12 and Azemi had 11. Abdul Bah and Darius Henderson led the way for the Huskies with 13 points apiece.

Roman Silva had 10 rebounds for the Wolverines.
