Wolverines to Open Season Fourth in State

The San Bernardino Valley College men’s basketball team is ranked fourth in the state in preseason rankings released Thursday by the California Community College Men’s Basketball Coaches Association.

The Wolverines return four players from last year’s squad that had a disappointing early exit from the playoffs, falling to Riverside City College 68-59 in the Southern California regional quarterfinals.

San Bernardino is fourth in the state and second in Southern California in the rankings behind fellow Pacific Coast Athletic Conference member, San Diego City College. The Knights, the defending state champs, return four players from last year’s team as well. Northern California’s San Francisco and Fresno are numbers two and three, respectively.

The Wolverines will open the 2017-18 season Thursday, Nov. 2, taking on Compton in the first game of the College of the Desert Frank Garcia Tip-Off Classic. The Wolverines will play the tournament’s opening game at 1 p.m.

San Bernardino Valley’s first home game will be as part of the SBVC Alvin Hunter Classic, as the Wolverines will take on Grossmont in a first-round game on Nov. 17.
